Monthly Community Drum Circles at Music for Life of Pittsburgh

Each month, Music for Life of Pittsburgh hosts a community drum circle that welcomes people of all ages, backgrounds, and musical experience. These gatherings are open, inclusive spaces where rhythm becomes a shared language, creativity is encouraged, and connection is the central aim.

What to expect:

  • No experience required. Whether you’ve never touched a drum or you’ve played for years, you’ll find a place in the circle.

  • Supportive facilitators: Our experienced facilitators guides the group and gives gentle cues so everyone can participate easily and have fun!

  • We focus on creating music and rhythmn together as a group. Our drum circles are about group shared sound rather than showcasing individual virtuosity.

  • Instruments provided. We supply a variety of hand drums and percussion; you’re also welcome to bring your own instrument.

  • A casual, welcoming atmosphere. Whether you come by yourself, with friends, or with family you will have a great time! Conversations before and after the circle are part of the experience.

Benefits of participating:

  • Community building. Drum circles foster social connection and create a sense of belonging across age groups and cultures.

  • Stress reduction and mood improvement. Engaging in rhythmic activity can reduce stress, increase feelings of well-being, and produce an energizing, grounding effect.

  • Improved focus and listening skills. Playing in a group requires attentive listening and awareness of others, which strengthens concentration and cooperative skills.

  • Creative expression. Participants explore rhythm, improvisation, and personal expression in a nonjudgmental setting.
