This is an arrangement of the Sarabande, the fourth movement from Cello Suite No. 1 by J.S. Bach, arranged for 15/14 hammered dulcimer. The Sarabande is a slow, stately dance in triple meter. One of the characteristics of this type of dance is the emphasis on the second beat of the measure, appearing here through the use of rolled chords or longer notes.

Included are two versions of this movement from Bach’s Cello Suite #1 in G Major. One is a blank copy of the music, arranged for the 15/14 hammered dulcimer, allowing you to make any notations or marks that you find helpful. The second version is the transcription of how I have chosen to play the movement. A description of my marking system is included.

Only one note had to be altered to fit the 15/14 size. In measure 21, the chord on the second beat had a C3 in the bass. Here it is shifted up the octave to the middle of the chord. The range of this movement is D3 to D5.
